MWD/LWD battery module high-temperature battery composition?

Measurement while drilling (MWD) and logging while drilling (LWD) are technologies used by the oil and gas industry to collect data while drilling. High temperature batteries are an important part of MWD/LWD tools because they must operate reliably in extreme temperature environments.

The composition of high-temperature batteries used in MWD/LWD modules may be different, but they are usually made of lithium sulfite chloride (Li-SOCl2). This chemical has high energy density and long life, and can work at temperatures up to 150 ° C (302 ° F).

The specific structure of MWD/LWD battery modules may also be different, but they are usually composed of multiple batteries arranged in series or parallel to achieve the required voltage and capacity. The battery is usually enclosed in a protective case and connected to a circuit board that manages its charging and discharging cycles.

In addition to Li-SOCl2 chemistry, other high-temperature battery chemicals used in MWD/LWD tools include lithium manganese dioxide (Li-MnO2) and lithium sulfur dioxide (Li-SO2). The selection of battery chemical composition depends on the required operating temperature range, the required energy density, and the size and weight limitations of the battery module.
