What are the limitations or challenges associated with MWD technology?

MWD technology (logging-directional-remote technology) is a technology for measuring wellbore and formation properties in oil and gas wells. It sends electromagnetic or acoustic signals downhole, then measures the reflections and echoes of these signals and calculates the properties of the formation. However, MWD technology also has some limitations and challenges:

Depth limitation: MWD technology is only suitable for measuring formations within the depth of the well, and cannot effectively measure deeper formations.

Accuracy limitation: The measurement accuracy of measurement-while-drilling technology is affected by various factors such as formation heterogeneity, vibration and temperature.

Data loss: During data transmission, signal loss or interference can sometimes occur, resulting in poor or lost measurement data.

Cost issue: The measurement-while-drilling technology requires the use of high-quality measurement equipment and technology, which requires frequent maintenance and updates, which will bring considerable cost pressure
